At dawn, around 5:21 a.m., operations to remove the bus that fell from the Rizzardi overpass near the Mestre train station were completed, killing 15 people. Another 5 were injured, five of them seriously.
After hours of work, the bus was lifted with the support of two cranes and transported to a depot. Over 60 firefighters were involved with over 20 vehicles. With the vehicle removed, traffic in the area resumed at first light.
Seven people have already been identified among the deceased, four of them Ukrainians, an Italian (the driver), a German, and a woman of unknown nationality, possibly Ukrainian.

The Venice Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation
The Venice Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the bus crash in Mestre, which killed 21 people and injured 15 others. In the coming hours, footage from security cameras focused on the overpass will be analyzed to better understand the circumstances of the crash.
Among the victims were two children and a minor girl
Two children—a newborn and a 12-year-old—and a minor girl are among the 21 victims of the bus accident in Mestre. There were no new deaths overnight among the 15 injured taken to hospitals in the region. Four of them, in intensive care, have not yet been identified.
