"It was heartbreaking, a unique emotion. Hearing Bach's piece transcribed by my son for a wind quartet was something special. I thank the president Mattarella who wanted this event in memory of Giogiò". Daniela Di Maggio, the mother of Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young Neapolitan musician killed for trivial reasons last August 31st in the Neapolitan capital, cannot contain his emotion at the end of a touching morning at the Quirinale, where he was received by the Head of State Sergio Mattarella together with Giogiò's father and sister.

"President Mattarella - explains Mrs. Di Maggio - He received us privately: in the more than ten minutes we spent together he showed us his closeness for what senseless happened.

He told us that what happened to my son affected the whole of Italy and beyond. Napoli, and that today's concert was a sign that beauty must prevail over ugliness. The concert was very moving; Giogiò's idols were there, the musicians he tried to imitate, starting with Alessio Allegrini, first horn of the orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. And with him, his Scarlatti-like teacher, Luca Martingano, who inspired Giogiò. Listening to that Bach piece transcribed by Giogiò destroyed me; it was a piece he was always rehearsing."

Giovanbattista's mother reminded the president of the demonstration scheduled for October 9th in Rome to demand the approval of a law that would provide life imprisonment for juvenile killers. "I asked him - explains - To stand by me because the need for a law on juvenile offenders is an issue that absolutely must be addressed. We told the president that we are facing a social crisis where kids are going out armed, and if we don't intervene with a revision of the laws governing voluntary manslaughter, my son's case will not remain unique because the widespread sense of impunity among young people will remain intact. The president - concludes Mrs. Di Maggio - finally, he confirmed to me that the gold medal for civil valor will be proposed for Giovanbattista".
