An icon of Neapolitan gastronomic culture in the world with registration in the special register of historical brands of national interest (first and only business in the restaurant sector), Mimì alla Ferrovia celebrates its 80th anniversary with a photographic exhibition and a calendar of eight events, one for each decade, sponsored by the Campania Region and the Municipality of Napoli.
It is impossible to remember all the loyal and regular customers in Mimì's long history: from Maradona to Enrico De Nicola, from Gianni Agnelli to Totò, Eduardo and Peppino De Filippo and then, in no particular order, Federico Fellini, Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman, Lucio Dalla, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, and recently Bono Vox, Robert De Niro, Sting, Bon Jovi.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi presented the Giugliano family with the Medal of the City of Naples "as a sign of profound gratitude and admiration for the high level of professionalism, undisputed quality, hospitality, and welcome they demonstrate daily in respecting, protecting, and promoting our region's immense food and wine heritage, upholding the city's reputation throughout the world." Also in attendance were Tourism Councilors Felice Casucci (Regional Council) and Teresa Armato (Municipality Council), as well as Benevento Mayor Clemente Mastella.
Born from the passion of Emilio and Ida, the restaurant's family history continues today with cousins Michele Sr. and Michele Jr. Giugliano and their children, chef Salvatore, and marketing and communications manager Ida. The anniversary year will also see the release of a documentary film with a soundtrack by Davide Tropico Petrella; the catalog "80 e li mostra. La storia, 1943/2023" (Iemme Edizioni); merchandise, a wine, and a doggy bag for sustainability and waste prevention. The Mimì Award will be presented to the students of the "Monelli tra i fornelli Onlus" cooking school, which works with children from the Nisida Juvenile Correctional Institution. The closing event will include a party with Michelin-starred chefs. The next step will be the restaurant's adoption of the street, Via D'Aragona.
