The Education Commission of the Municipality of Naples, chaired by Aniello Esposito, met with Councilor Maura Striano to discuss school buildings in relation to seismic events and book coupons for secondary schools.
Councilor Striano explained that the offices have established two types of commissions to monitor school buildings: a central task force and ten municipal task forces, tasked with liaising with the School Prevention and Safety Directors to monitor the situation on a daily basis and compile a weekly report. She then noted that the Administration had already completed the seismic certification process in recent months, which, unlike other municipalities, prevented schools from closing today.
Nino Simeone (Mixed) announced the meeting of the infrastructure commission he chairs, which will discuss the possibility of involving local health authorities, volunteer associations and civil protection for a communication campaign in schools and workplaces on how to behave in the event of an earthquake or eruption.
According to Salvatore Flocco (M5S), the councilor promptly responded to the concerns raised after last night's earthquake.

Together with President Esposito, Flocco then asked Councilor Striano to reopen the platform for book coupons for secondary schools to meet the needs of many families. Striano explained that the Municipality kept the platform open for 45 days, from August 4th to September 18th, during which nearly 37 requests were received. Eligible applicants are now being checked to ensure the coupons are disbursed by the end of October or early November at the latest.
The available resources amount to approximately €2 million in residual expenditure from last year and an additional €500 million in regional funds, allowing all eligible applicants to be satisfied at this time. The Municipality has not prepared a ranking list as it intends to fully cover all requests. A possible reopening of the platform, he concluded, would jeopardize the compliance with the deadlines for disbursing funds to families who have already submitted applications. However, to accommodate the requests expressed by the councilors, the Department reserves the right to reconsider the possibility of reopening the deadlines.
President Esposito praised the Administration's work, both on seismic monitoring and on book coupons, and reiterated the need for a brief update to inform the Administration of its decisions regarding the requests raised in the commission today.
