Culture and history are increasingly less appreciated. In fact, there are even those in Naples who despise and destroy them.
Last Sunday, unknown persons entered the Educational Archaeological Park In the Footsteps of Man to destroy some of the rooms and objects contained therein.
The park, one of a kind, is located near the Bosco di Capodimonte and is managed by the archaeologist Dr. Fabiana Dumont who started this activity about 13 years ago with a completely self-financed project.
It was Dr. Dumont herself who made the incident known by addressing the deputy of the Green-Left alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
“I am the owner of the educational archaeological park on the tracks of man in Capodimonte, a structure that I have managed completely self-financing for 13 years with enormous sacrifices. Everything inside was built at our expense and often with our own efforts. Over the years I have often suffered thefts, or simply acts of vandalism.
Many times I asked for help from the institutions but I only received doors slammed in my face.
Sunday morning after a week-long absence for health reasons, this is the sight I found before me. The pavilion with the historical dioramas destroyed, the electrical box torn off and a lot of damage.
Now I know that almost nothing can be done but I would like to make this outburst known so that at least people can be ashamed of so much ignorance. I don't consider it wickedness but stupidity and the worst thing is that judging from the shoes lost in the escape (number 33) those responsible had minors with them or at least there were kids on site".
“We have asked the police to shed light on the episode and identify the vandals who will be severely punished.”– comments Borrelli- “It is the height of shame that in a place intended for teaching someone has taught children to be uncivilized, destructive and delinquent.
But now we are no longer surprised, we need to do a lot of re-education. This place must be protected and the institutions must support it because it is unique in its kind and among the few in Italy of this size where you can do outdoor activities with children.”
