The Pompeii Archaeological Park's public notice for the projects "Azienda Agricola Pompeii" and "Horti Plinii– Pliny's Educational Garden," to be implemented through a special form of partnership, is about to expire. The deadline for expressions of interest is October 23.
The projects aim to enhance and redevelop the numerous green areas that are currently unused or underused within the various sites of the Park with the aim of protecting biodiversity, providing environmental education, respecting and interpreting the techniques and cultivation methods of the ancient world in an updated manner, respecting the archaeological nature of the sites and thus encouraging good practices towards the communities of the area surrounding the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
The partnership management will deal with the production, processing and marketing of agricultural products and by-products, but will also ensure the development of a circular economy model, in addition to the conservation of the areas and their archaeological values.
Among the types of cultivations of the Pompei Agricultural Company, we will find olive, wine, floriculture, fruit and cereal. To which are added beekeeping and grazing activities, forestry and nursery cultivation. All with a strong social and educational imprint.
The Orti Didattici – Horti Plinii – Pliny’s Educational Garden project will be developed not only in Pompeii, but also in the Villas of Stabiae in Castellammare di Stabia, in Villa Regina in Boscoreale, in Longola in Poggiomarino, at the Real Polverificio Borbonico in Scafati. In these archaeological areas, educational centers will be created based on the cultivation of synergistic micro-gardens and utilitarian gardens, to illustrate the relationship between man and nature in the ancient world. Spaces that will be created on the basis of archaeological data and through the study of ancient texts by Pliny the Elder, Columella and other ancient authors who teach what and how to grow.
