Markus Krautli, 67, and his wife Melissa, 63, lived in Wellisellen, a Swiss town in the Canton of Zurich.'traffic accident occurred this morning on state road 195 in San Giovanni Suergiu, in Sulcis.
The two were in Sardinia for a luxury car rally and were staying at the Forte Village in Santa Margherita di Pula. They had rented the Ferrari to take part in the Sardinia Supercar Experience, a three-day tour from the south of the island to Olbia.
The caravan had departed this morning from Teulada and was scheduled to reach Porto Flavia, in the hamlet of Masua, where the drivers were scheduled to have lunch. The accident occurred during the journey to Masua.
According to the reconstruction of the Carabinieri, the Ferrari with the two Swiss on board was overtaking the convoy of vehicles before ending up off the road. Among them was a Lamborghini with two Indians from Mumbai and a camper with tourists from South Tyrol. That stretch of road is straight and two-way.
The Lamborghini also tried to overtake the camper but hit the Ferrari that was already in the process of overtaking. The driver of the Maranello racing car lost control, hitting the side of the camper, which overturned. The Ferrari went off the road, overturned in turn and caught fire. The two occupants were burned to death.
The Lamborghini also went off the road, but the driver and passenger were unharmed.

Markus Krautli was a successful businessman and owner of a construction company. Melissa Krautli was a housewife. The couple had been married for 40 years and had two adult daughters.
