The room features frescoes on the ceiling and walls depicting mythological scenes, ichthyocentaurs holding a shield on the front wall, festoons surrounding the burial chamber, and figurative representations, including a three-headed dog, hence the mausoleum's conventional name, the Tomb of Cerberus. Three painted klinai, an altar with libation vessels, and burials still resting on the richly decorated funerary beds complete the picture of an unprecedented discovery in this area.
Thanks to surface surveys conducted during preliminary archaeological investigations mandated by the Superintendency for the Metropolitan Area of Naples, which identified a scattering of historical material, and to the insight of Dr. Simona Formola, the official responsible for the territory, a trench was placed directly in the area. This revealed a wealth of burials, with various rites (both inhumation and cremation), testifying to the area's long use for funerary purposes, with multiple levels of occupation, spanning at least four centuries, from the Roman Republican era to the Roman Imperial period.
