Another road accident tragedy. Another high-speed victim.

On the evening of Tuesday, October 3, a serious accident occurred on the Asse Mediano, near Marcianise, in the province of Caserta: an Audi and a Renault Scenic collided. The Renault Scenic overturned after the impact, ending up off the road, while the Audi crashed into the guardrail. The Edizioni Caserta newspaper also reports the accident.

However, a third car was also involved in the accident, a Fiat Doblò, whose driver, 76-year-old Gennaro Pica from Castel Volturno, died instantly.

The story of the victim's son

According to the victim's son, who spoke to the Green-left alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, it seems that Mr. Pica was stopped in the emergency lane because the tow truck was loading his broken-down car.

The Audi, which was traveling at a very high speed, hit the car while it was being loaded onto the tow truck, effectively sending it over the barriers. In the collision, the man was hit and died instantly, and the drivers of the tow truck were also seriously injured with problems to their arms and legs. Investigations for manslaughter are underway.

“They killed my father, they're talking about a single accident between an Audi and a Scenic where the driver of the Scenic died from the impact.

My father had a breakdown with his car and was standing there with the tow truck, the car was already on the tow truck when these 2 cars, the Audi and the Scenic, arrived at very high speed and hit my father, the tow truck men and my father's friends who were in the car with him for a total of 7 people hit.

Unfortunately my father died instantly while two other people suffered serious injuries and it seems we also lost some limbs.
Police are investigating whether the two drivers were under the influence of drugs or had been drinking.

The thing that makes me angry is that there are no speed cameras or controls on that road. They always speed like crazy there,” said Pica’s son.

"At this tragic time, we stand with the Pica family and share their grief," declared Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green-Left alliance. "We ask the authorities to get to the bottom of this matter and determine who is responsible. If the initial allegations are confirmed, they must harshly condemn the drivers who caused this senseless death and who risked causing a massacre.

How many more victims must we mourn before serious measures are taken against madness and high speed? We want more controls, devices on the main roads and reforms to the highway code.”
