The fifth man of the gang discovered in Naples who defrauded the elderly with the fake nephew technique was also captured.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the ring was led by a 27-year-old man who allegedly employed four collaborators to plan the scams. A total of 14 people are under investigation, all with different roles.
The operations centre was identified by the Carabinieri in Via Duomo, the historic centre of Napoli, at the 27-year-old's home.
He was the one who managed the telephone lines from which the fake nephew's scams originated and the fake courier's meeting. Alongside him, at least four people are believed to have organized the entire group, collecting money and transportation, and coordinating the other suspects.
