A concert in the heart of Rome, in the Basilica of Saints Ambrose and Charles at the Corso, in the presence of the highest officials of the State, twenty years after the massacre of Nassirya in Iraq in which 19 Italian soldiers lost their lives.
A special event, which will take place on Sunday 12 November at 21 pm, promoted by Er Concerti, Cidim-Italian National Music Committee and Aiam-Italian Association of Musical Activities with the support of the Ministry of Culture-General Directorate of Entertainment and the patronage of the Ministry of Defense.
In the evocative setting of the church on Via del Corso, the Young Musicians European Orchestra will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Eroica, conducted by Maestro Paolo Olmi, who in 2004 took part in the first concert to remember the victims of Nassiriya. The concert will end with the performance of Mameli's Canto degli Italiani performed by the orchestra, which will be joined by the Carabinieri Band and the Army Band, respectively conducted by Maestros Massimo Martinelli and Filippo Cangiamila.
“For me, conducting this concert is a great honor.– explains maestro Paolo Olmi- the one in Nassiriya is a wound that is still open for all of us and I am proud, with my young orchestra, to be able to contribute so that no one forgets the terrible tragedy that occurred in 2003 in Iraq, and the pain, the sense of emptiness and loss of the many families involved in a dramatic and cruel event that suddenly ended the lives of so many people. Our orchestra, composed not only of Italians but also of very young professionals from other European countries, wants to collectively honor all these people and will do so with the instrument that we know best: music, with all the emotions that it is capable of arousing”.
"I want to thank– continues Olmi- the Cidim-Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica and also the Aiam-Associazione Italiana Attività Musicali, for offering the musicians of the Young Musicians European Orchestra the incredible opportunity to perform on the occasion of such a significant commemoration for our country. In our orchestra, musicians of different nationalities play, including Palestinians, Poles, Israelis, Ukrainians, Spanish, Germans, Albanians. And all together we want to send a message of peace in a world devastated by dramatic conflicts”.
