Filippo Turetta will have to reappear before the German judges to give his acceptance, or otherwise, to the request for extradition to Italy on the basis of the new international arrest warrant, reformulated by the Venice Prosecutor's Office for the hypothesis of voluntary homicide.
Prosecutor Bruno Cherchi explained it today. The young man had already agreed to the transfer to Italy, during yesterday's validation hearing in Halle on the basis of the first EAW with which he was arrested, opened for the initial hypothesis of attempted murder.
The Naumburg court will examine the extradition request submitted by the Italian judiciary for Filippo Turetta, accused of having killed his ex-girlfriend Giulia Cecchettin. This is what the court itself announced, as reported by the daily newspaper “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.
Wanted on a European arrest warrant for the murder of Cecchettin, Turetta was arrested by the German police on the evening of 18 October near Leipzig, on the A9 motorway, and has since been held in Halle prison.
With the discovery of Giulia's body, Cherchi explained, the crime title was reformulated to voluntary homicide. As part of the validation of this provision, Filippo will have to give his consent to the extradition.
In the meantime, it has been learned that the autopsy on Giulia Cecchettin's body, as soon as the Prosecutor's Office can proceed with the appointment of its own consultants and those of the parties, will take place at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Padua.
