“The theme of the balance of historic centers, as a place of tourist attraction but also of daily life is a challenge and the city will be able to show what is being done in this sense”.
"I thank Ministers Tajani and Sangiuliano for choosing our city. We will try to do our best to welcome delegates from all over the world to the Unesco Conference and we are working on this in great synergy with the ministries. I believe the choice of Naples is significant and is a reward for the work we are doing".
This was stated by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, speaking at the press conference of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, at the Sala Aldo Moro of the Farnesina to present the event “Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century”, which will be held in Naples from 27 to 29 November, in the presence of several foreign ministers and the highest levels of UNESCO, to develop common responses to the new challenges posed to the world and intangible heritage of humanity.
“The theme of the balance of historic centers, as a place of tourist attraction but also of daily life, is a challenge and Naples will be able to show what is being done in this sense – added Manfredi – I remember the work, thanks to active participation, that is being done in the Sanità district, where the great museum sites, such as the Catacombs of San Gennaro, and the churches in the area have been enhanced”.
“Italy is a global cultural superpower for its history, beauty and capacity for inclusion – concluded Manfredi – and those who come from different countries of the world will be able to experience first-hand the combination of material and immaterial heritage for a more participatory future capable of including more cultures. In this sense, Naples is a city of a thousand cultures”.
