“I started thinking about football when I was 5 years old, I attended football school and played amateur football, with a passion that never separated me from this world. I fell in love with football to the point of pushing me to become an agent." Thus Mario Giuffredi, agent of several footballers, including Giovanni Di Lorenzo, talks about his autobiographical book, “The Road of a Dream – My Life as a Prosecutor”, published by Cairo and presented today at the Maradona stadium in Napoli.
“Today I live a job – explains Giuffredi – that brings you great satisfaction, you work defending athletes who perhaps do not have the economic and financial maturity for their talent on the field and therefore we work to be able to enhance them. I think that those who are agents must work with a great conscience, because the players are boys catapulted into a world bigger than them. Therefore, it must be the agent who defends their interests at all costs, because otherwise they can be taken over by the new life, by the many factors that can then lead to problems, in life, in the family ... So our job is not only to think about the field, the contracts, the market, but it is also about protecting these boys under other human aspects ".
Giuffredi recalls the past, when relatives managed the economic aspect of the footballers: "football has evolved over the years. Once upon a time there were family members, today there is the professional agent and it is right that it is not a relative who improvises this job. And then you fight with the club presidents, who bring water to their mill, but do not go against the players, they try to do their interests".
Giuffredi talks about two players in his team, Di Lorenzo and the new talent he is betting on, Fabiano Parisi, full-back for Fiorentina: "Di Lorenzo made the choice to renew his contract and live in Naples for the rest of his career. Everyone has a place they love and where they feel loved and at that point you don't just look at the financial side. Among the new players I have great respect for Parisi, a player who can follow in Di Lorenzo's footsteps. He's a full-back who comes from the ranks and in my opinion can continue on the path to sporting success."
