“Giulia should have graduated last Thursday; her surname, Cecchettin, designated her as the first student expected to graduate in engineering at 8:XNUMX.
A graduation that will happen, that will surely happen”, declared the rector of the University of Padua, Maddalena Mapelli, during a conference held in the Aula Magna, which opened with a minute of silence in memory of the young woman who was tragically killed.
“But at this moment,” he added, "It is essential to respect the pain of Giulia's family, her father and brothers. When the time is right, we will contact the family to organize a ceremony, following the timing and methods that the family wishes to accept."
The rector explained that in all the classrooms of the University of Padua a moment of silence was observed at the beginning of the lessons, “in memory of our student Giulia, killed in such a violent and brutal way.”
The degree will be awarded in the next few weeks
He added that he had received hundreds of emails from male and female students who “They write to express their condolences, sometimes their anger, and to ask for answers.” “Finding answers is difficult”, continued Mapelli.
“This event has affected not only our community, but the entire country, perhaps because, in addition to the violent act itself, it happened between two young people who grew up in the 2000s, in a socio-cultural context that we could define as 'normal'”.

I am so sorry for Giulia's family. I hope they can find some comfort during the graduation ceremony.
It's really sad what happened. Graduation will be a moment of remembrance for Giulia.
This is a terrible event that has affected everyone. We hope that the graduation ceremony can be a time of remembrance and reconciliation for the family.
