The new prefect of Naples is Michele Di Bari, 64 years old, from Puglia. He is originally from Mattinata, in the province of Foggia.
Since March 6, he has been the prefect of Venice and the last emergency he dealt with was the bus accident in Mestre, which cost the lives of 21 people. Since June 24, 2022, Di Bari has been the coordinator of the Coordination Committee for the high surveillance of priority infrastructures and settlements and since November 7, 2022, director of the Mission Structure for the “Urgent interventions in favor of the populations affected by the seismic events of 2016”.
In his long career he was municipal secretary of various municipalities, chief of staff and vice-prefect in Foggia; vice-government commissioner of the new Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani; extraordinary commissioner of numerous municipalities and held multiple positions.
Appointed prefect on 22 December 2010, in this capacity he first took on the role of deputy government commissioner for the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region; he was then prefect of Vibo Valentia, Modena, Reggio Calabria and head of the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration of the Ministry of the Interior. The current prefect of Naples, Claudius Palomba, will instead go to the Ministry of the Interior, where he was appointed head of the Department for Internal and Territorial Affairs in place of Claudio Sgaraglia, new prefect of Milan.
