Two deaths in the space of a few days at the Fatebenefratelli hospital in Benevento, both of whom underwent gastric bypass surgery, have prompted the Prosecutor's Office to open an investigation.
The first victim is Lorenzo Riccio, a 41-year-old from Recale in the province of Caserta who died after gastric bypass surgery.
The man was hospitalized at the Fatebenefratelli hospital in Benevento when he suddenly felt ill after the operation that took place a week ago. The operation seemed successful, in fact he was awake and conscious but suddenly the situation worsened. On Sunday he started to feel unwell.
A CT scan revealed a hole in his stomach, and he underwent a second surgery: he never came out of the pharmacological coma. Then on Wednesday night his heart stopped beating.
Lorenzo, who was a carny by profession, leaves behind a wife and 4 children aged 18, 16, 10 and 3. The family filed a complaint asking to understand the causes of death and ascertain any responsibilities.
Yesterday the second death: that of Francesco Estatica, 35 years old originally from Avella, in the province of Avellino. First a bartender at the American Bar, then for years an employee of Air Campania Francesco was very well known. Even the Air company with a post mourns his passing.
Air's condolences: "There are news that leave you stunned, that strike you like a blow in the face. The passing of Francesco Estatica, a colleague of Baiano's who was just 35 years old, who had a life ahead of him to live with the enthusiasm that distinguished him, is the most terrible of these. The administrator, the management and all the colleagues of Air Campania participate in the grief of the Estatica family".
Francesco had decided to undergo stomach surgery to reduce weight. It seemed that everything was going well, but unfortunately, in the last few days, he had to return to the hospital in Benevento due to complications. And yesterday he died.
