This morning, the military personnel of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza are executing a precautionary measure issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the same Judicial Office, against six people seriously suspected of the crime of criminal association aimed at the smuggling of foreign manufactured tobacco.
The execution of today's precautionary measures follows investigations, carried out by the financial police of the Portici Company, performed through technical activities, observation, control, shadowing and operational checks, which have allowed the uncovering of the existence of two criminal associations, inserted in an intermediate level of the distribution chain of contraband cigarettes from Eastern Europe, with an operational base in Naples. The suspects are to be identified as subjects residing, respectively, in the municipalities of Portici and Ercolano, as well as in the neighborhoods of Naples - Barra and San Giovanni a Teduccio.
During the investigations, both the properties used for storage (garages, garages, basements, apartments) and the vehicles used for deliveries of TLE supplies were identified and monitored, seizing, in total, over 5 tons of contraband TLE and arresting, in flagrante delicto, 10 individuals.
Emblematic were the seizures carried out in the territory of the Municipality of Torre del Greco where, in one case, foreign manufactured tobacco was identified inside a cavity created under the floor on the ground floor of a villa under renovation and, in another case, in a room used as a changing room of a football field located inside a large sports complex. Overall, the criminal organization, over a two-year period, moved approximately 40 tons of contraband cigarettes, of different qualities, with a market value of approximately 12 million euros.
