Stones were thrown and clashes occurred between Union Berlin's German ultras and the police. It was a tense evening in downtown Naples, where street fighting erupted, similar to that seen during the other Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to reports, 11 German fans were stopped by the police yesterday evening between Piazza Dante and Via Roma, the area where the clashes took place. Several shops were damaged, the German ultras allegedly tried to force the police blockade and began a heavy stone-throwing attack before the clashes.
The police responded with truncheons and tear gas. Shop windows and cars were damaged, dumpsters were overturned, streets were blocked: Corso Umberto, Piazza Dante, Via Roma, Via Medina and several other arteries in the center were vandalized by about 200 supporters of the German team.
Avoid contact with the Neapolitan ultras. Further clashes are feared today due to the arrival in Naples of the second wave of German fans ahead of today's match at 18pm. To avoid any contact between opposing fans, the closure of some metro stations from early afternoon cannot be ruled out. 45 fans are expected in the away section, but there is fear of the arrival of hundreds of Germans without tickets.

Situations like this do nothing but damage the image of football and the city of Naples.
It is sad to see that football, which should be a sport of aggregation, often turns into violence and guerrilla warfare.
These episodes of violence are truly shameful. Serious measures should be taken to prevent their repetition.
