“Give and it will be given to you” - says verse 6-38 of the Gospel according to Luke. Evidently the two women caught by the security cameras stealing from the collection boxes will have given a lot or, instead, are now in great debt.
The theft took place in the monumental Church of San Ferdinando in Piazza Trieste e Trento in Naples. As can be seen from the images, while one of the two thieves acted as a lookout and indicated the points where to strike, the other “fished” for the money from the offerings with a tape measure whose tip was soaked in glue. The parish priest, who reported the theft, turned to the deputy of the Green-Sinistra alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli so that the images of the two desecrators be disclosed so that they could be recognized. “If they had asked me for help,” explains Father Lino, “I would have given it to them but they were probably just looking for money. Unfortunately, it is not the first time this has happened.”
“Stealing in church, taking away the offerings intended for the needy, is something to which it is better not to add any adjective because it would run the risk of going too far. It is a common shameful and ignoble action” - comments Borrelli “- We hope that the two thieves will soon be identified or, better yet, that they repent of their squalid gesture, turn themselves in and return the stolen goods. Those who steal the offering boxes in church, which are intended for the truly needy, are unspeakable and represent one of the peaks of inhumanity and social drift that we are experiencing in this period”.
