From Naples a plan for orphaned children after femicide

“We have a very important and innovative project, we don't want a path that consumes money but doesn't open a path for orphans di femicide, from children up to 21 years old who lose their mother for murder and often also their father because he committed the crime and commits suicide or spends many years in prison”.

This is how Fedele Salvatore, president of Coop Irene 95, talks about today's day in Napoli which was dedicated by them to the 72 orphans of femicide in Campania from 2010 to today, in a southern Italy where 305 total orphans of femicide have been identified. The Coop Irene 95 is working on the traumas of these orphans and has started a strong collaboration with the carabinieri and magistrates present at today's forum.

"We are establishing together - explains Fedele Salvatore - a procedure for accompanying orphans of murders. Because the work in synergy of the institutions is of fundamental importance. Our project began 2 years ago and will continue for another 2 years, but I hope it never ends, because we would like to deliver to society a definitive path in which the State takes care of the kids. Today we are directly following 26 young people both on psychotherapeutic paths, and through educational skills, but also opportunities for reintegration into social life and socialization such as sports activities and cultural activities".

Paths of great value in a moment that already in a teenager without family traumas is made of personal difficulties and that often becomes enormous in those who have experienced family tragedies: "We work - explains Salvatore - on what is in the head of a teenager who grows from a boy to an adult but is suddenly traumatized. It is a very serious problem and that we have not yet fully understood in a society that often does not adequately address this trauma. Often there has been no one who has been able to adequately tell him what happened to his parents and there has been no one who has been able to treat him in the right way during the growth period"
