The botanical works started this morning at Mascagna Park. We proceeded with the first felling of a tree, in the lower part, where there was space for the elderly.
The municipal technicians present informed the citizens, who had rushed to the site to protest against the demolition, that many others would follow.
"The Municipality of Naples must inform the citizens of which and how many tree species will be cut down, justifying their cut down with a report from agronomists that will be made public - declare the municipal councilors of Sole che Ride Rino Nasti and Luca Bonetti present on site - fortunately today, Tree Day, there were people who took to the streets to defend the trees. We also ask for guarantees that for each cut down, new tree species will be introduced in greater numbers and of similar value to those that will be removed; we hope that Councilor Santagata will constantly communicate with the territory".
"The culture that has governed the management offices in charge of public greenery in the municipality of Naples for too long - explains Europa Verde MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli - finds us totally dissenting. The distorted and harmful vision now involves eliminating as many trees and shrubs as possible in order to avoid taking responsibility for maintenance and any problems or damage. A city made only of concrete is, however, destined to be unlivable. We also oppose the lack of transparency and the lack of dialogue with citizens. It is no coincidence that on the day of the tree festival, felling and not planting are planned".
