I carabinieri of the Company of Napoli The Centre has intensified its control services in the suggestive Piazza Dante, in the heart of the city. The focus is mainly on the younger ones and on the reckless use of motorcycles and scooters, often driven in the pedestrian area of the square. A real danger for pedestrians and tourists walking through the historic center.
The decision by the Carabinieri to increase their presence in the square was made in response to recent news events, highlighting their commitment to ensuring a safe environment. In the last month, the Carabinieri have fined 67 people, all for violations of the highway code. Many of these for driving without a helmet and in a pedestrian area. Almost all of the fined people were young people between the ages of 17 and 20. 23 scooters were seized and taken away by tow truck, and 2 cars.
The checks also included many young people reported to the Prefecture for drug use.
Dozens of young people, many minors, were found in possession of drugs for personal use. And again, in the area that includes Piazza Dante, Port'Alba and small sections of Via Toledo, the Carabinieri reported 3 minors for using knives. 2 were reported for evasion, 2 arrested for robbing a minor of a cell phone.
Just this night, a 25-year-old was reported for driving without a license and a 28-year-old was fined for being clearly drunk. The checks will continue in the coming days. Particular attention will also be paid to the serving of alcoholic beverages to minors under 18.
