Filippo Turetta “was taken to the detention center in the city of Halle”.

IThe young man is accused of killing Giulia Cecchettin's ex-girlfriend, as reported by the police of Halle an der Saale, a city in the Bundesland Saxony-Anhalt, this afternoon "at around 17 pm he was brought before the judge of the Halle Court who decided to arrest the Italian citizen".

Now the Venetian student who had disappeared since the late evening of Saturday 11 November, and was then immortalised by some cameras both in the Belluno area and in Austria, is locked up in the prison of the German city.

Last night around 22:9 p.m., Turetta, after a desperate escape of a thousand kilometers, was stopped by a patrol, alerted by some motorists in transit, while he was on board his black Fiat Grande Punto in the emergency lane of the AXNUMX motorway, without lights and without gasoline. The place of the stop is Bad Duerrenberg, about thirty kilometers east of Leipzig.

Stopped in Bad Duerrenberg, about thirty kilometers east of Leipzig

What stopped him in Saxony-Anhalt, in the heart of former communist Germany, where he had arrived by crossing secondary roads in the northeast and then Austria, was gasoline. And the lack of money to fill up. He had even used blood-stained banknotes just to fill up at a vending machine: but evidently those had run out too.

And, evidently, it was also tiredness that blocked his legs, perhaps to try to continue his escape on foot, hopping in the orderly, rain-soaked fields of the area: to the German traffic police officers who carried out the stop, the young man appeared tired and resigned.

As if he was eager to turn himself in and put an end to his desperate escape. What aroused the suspicions of the patrol on duty on the highway was the fact that the black Punto had been reported by a motorist stopped in the emergency lane shortly after 22 pm on Saturday, but without the mandatory flashing emergency lights.

The license plate check was then carried out and it was discovered that the car was registered in the international police circuit. And precisely because there was a warning, the officers moved cautiously when approaching the car. But Turetta did not put up any resistance.

The identification of the young man on board thus brought the certainty that he was indeed the murderer of 22-year-old Giulia Cecchettin. The position of the car, however, left the German police perplexed: the Punto was traveling on the highway in a southerly direction, therefore towards Munich, and not in a northerly direction, therefore towards Berlin, as would have been more logical given that Turetta was fleeing from Italy.

For this reason, the German police are carrying out a series of investigations, also using videos recorded by surveillance cameras, to determine whether the passage of the Punto was filmed in northern Germany. In other words, whether the young man had reached a particular destination before setting off again.

The German judge has already confirmed the arrest

After the arrest, Turetta was taken for further investigation to nearby Weisseenfels, according to rumors. Then, as reported by a spokeswoman, to the Halle Police Headquarters, about thirty kilometers to the north, where he remained in custody until about 17:XNUMX p.m. From there, he appeared before a judge who could do nothing but confirm the arrest.

Already in the next few hours, or at least "in the first few days of the week", his case will be transferred to the "Higher Regional Court" (Oberlandesgericht) of Naumburg, a sort of Court of Appeal called to decide on extradition. But tonight Philip will spend in the prison of Halle. And it will be only the first of many to come.

The regional court of Naumburg will probably begin examining the request for extraction as early as tomorrow. The times, noted the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, "in these cases are rapid. Everything depends on the judiciary of Venice, but generally the times are very rapid".

According to Minister Tajani, the extradition could take place in a few days

The head of the Farnesina Antonio Tajani underlined that with the European arrest, which occurred thanks to "the coordination between our law enforcement agencies and the German ones", the boy "will be able to be handed over to the Italian law enforcement agencies and justice in a few days to undergo a fair trial".

The technical times foreseen by the extradition procedures are usually a few weeks. Italy has already completed the translation of the international arrest warrant into German and sent it to the German authorities. Therefore, if Turetta agrees to the surrender, the green light could arrive within 10 days. Probably even sooner.

At that point, a team of the Italian judicial police will go to Germany to take charge of the 22-year-old to transfer him to Italy and make him available to the judicial authorities. Magistrates who have several questions to ask the young man, to define the details that are still missing and above all to evaluate whether or not there was premeditation.

Filippo did some research on the internet about high altitude survival kits

By analyzing her computer history, investigators have in fact discovered numerous searches for high-altitude survival kits. Furthermore, Giulia's body was found wrapped in some black bags and at the site of the attack, in Fossò, a knife with a broken blade was found which will now be examined to understand if it was the murder weapon.

At the moment, the coroner who examined the girl's body has already ascertained that she was dead when she was taken by Filippo to the slope near Barcis. The autopsy, which could be performed in the next few hours, will definitively clarify the causes of death and the time frame of the crime. Then the body will be returned to the family for the last farewell to Giulia.

Thousands at the torchlight procession for Giulia in Vigonovo

Thousands at the torchlight procession for Giulia in Vigonovo The father and sister of the Thousands of people participated this evening in Vigonovo in the silent torchlight procession in memory of Giulia Cecchettin, the young university student killed by her ex-girlfriend.

The Comuhe had prepared 2000 candles to distribute, but they sold out in a very short time, and many other people joined the procession anyway, which included Giulia's father, Gino Cecchettin, and her sister, Elena.

No speeches, but only a moment of grief and closeness to the family. About thirty mayors from neighboring towns, between the provinces of Venice and Padua, also took part in the torchlight procession.
