The defendant is Stefania Russolillo, 47, a neighbor of the victim. The woman is accused of aggravated homicide, robbery and attempted concealment of a corpse.
According to the prosecution, Russolillo killed Gigante to rob her. The woman first strangled the victim with a rubber aerosol tube, then hit her on the head and finally doused her body with alcohol and tried to burn it.
Russolillo is being held in the women's prison in Pozzuoli, where she was served with an immediate trial order, as requested by the Naples Prosecutor's Office.
Today, in court, the defendant renounced to appear. Instead, all of Rosa Gigante's family members were present, including her son Donato De Caprio, the well-known tiktoker delicatessen owner "with breadcrumbs or without". The victim's relatives joined the civil action with lawyers Hilarry Sedu and Mariagrazia Santosuosso.
The trial has been adjourned to November 29, when preliminary investigations will begin.
The police investigations
The investigation into the murder of Rosa Gigante was conducted by the State Police. The first to find the woman's body were some neighbors, who alerted the police.
Investigators immediately suspected Stefania Russolillo, who had a conflictual relationship with the victim. The two women had had several arguments, including over neighborhood issues.
Russolillo was arrested on April 20. In her home, officers found the rubber tube used to strangle the victim, as well as other objects that could have been used in the robbery.
The accused initially denied the charges, but then confessed to the crime. She stated that she had killed Rosa Gigante in a fit of madness.
Psychiatric expertise
Stefania Russolillo underwent a psychiatric evaluation, which concluded that the woman is capable of understanding and willing, but presents “traits of dependent personality disorder”. The trial is in its early stages and the sentence is expected in the coming months.

The psychiatric assessment could be very important to understand the motivations behind this horrible crime.
I wonder how it is possible to kill a person to rob him. It is really incomprehensible.
It's a very sad story. I hope justice is done and the accused pays for what she did.
