An exhibition set up at Palazzo Vanvitelliano, live performances and the award ceremony for students from art and music high schools in Campania at the Teatro Comunale di Mercato Sanseverino.
Six days dedicated to the arts, from painting to sculpture through music, with the last day dedicated to the awarding of prizes to students of art and music high schools in Campania: in Marcato Sanverino, in the province of Salerno, the first edition of “Sanseverino Young Art” has just ended, an event that had the patronage of the Senate of the Republic, the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region.
“The aim of Sanseverino Young Art was to give high school students the opportunity to show themselves outside their classrooms, by making a prestigious space available for their works, the Palazzo Vanvitelliano, with an important history – declares Antonio Somma, Mayor of Mercato Sanseverino –. There was great participation and great enthusiasm, first of all from the teachers who saw the work they do every day with the kids taken into consideration. Then the students who, in addition to delivering their works, went to the exhibition area to look not only at what they had created but also at the works of their colleagues from other institutes, comparing techniques. Music was combined with art with truly spectacular performances. We are already thinking about the second edition and next year, which is why we asked for the support of the Ministry of Culture, we will extend the invitation to participate to all the art and music high schools in Italy”.
The event was supported by the Municipality of Mercato Sanseverino, the “Sabatini-Menna” Art School and the “Francesco Terrone di Ripacandida e Ginestra” Foundation. In addition to the high institutional patronage, there were also those from the Network of Art Schools of Campania, the Art School of San Leucio in Caserta, the Alfano I State High School of Salerno and the Giuseppe Martucci Music Conservatory of Salerno.
“Sanseverino Young Art is an ambitious project born with the aim of making Mercato Sanseverino a hub of the arts – declares Vincenza Cavaliere, deputy mayor of the Municipality of Sanseverino, with responsibility for Culture – An arts festival where kids can come to draw ideas, to experience that contamination that then makes art beautiful and shapes the students who attend art and music high schools in Campania. We are very happy with the response: 150 works from art high schools and 50 students from music high schools arrived at Mercato Sanseverino”.
“Sanseverino Young Art” found its heart in the exhibition set up inside the prestigious cloister of the Palazzo Vanvitelliano with one hundred and fifty works of painting, sculpture, architecture, design, installations and curated by the gallery owner Alessandro Erra with Universitas Sancti Severini.
“From this work the value of the boys who created the works emerged – declares Alessandro Erra, curator –. In this first edition of “Sanseverino Young Art” I saw works that represent art at 360 degrees. I really like to make the distinction between a painter, someone who paints on a canvas as a hobby, and an artist, a much higher dimension. I was amazed to find artists among the kids of fourteen, fifteen and sixteen years old. And this is an answer to all those who believe that kids waste time in front of smartphone and TV screens. It seems quite true to me that kids get ideas for their art from these screens”.
The jury that had to evaluate the students' works, awarding the "Sanseverino Young Art" prize, was prestigious. The members of the jury for the art section included the historian and art critic Giorgio Grasso, the artist Ciro Palumbo, the art promoter and doctor Tani Russo. For the music section, the maestros Nicola Samale and Alessandro Crosta and the music critic Dario Ascoli.
