Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian Augustus, the emperor Octavian, died in 14 AD “apud Nolam”, near Nola. It is not known exactly where, but certainly the first Roman emperor knew the Vesuvian and Nolan areas well and the city of Octavian, whose toponym derives from the Latin Octavius, has an indisputable historical and cultural link with him.
Furthermore, the bond between the people of Ottaviano and San Michele Arcangelo, the Patron Saint venerated in the city by virtue of an ancient tradition, is also very strong. For this reason too, the municipal administration, in collaboration with the Vesuvius National Park, the “Agostino Cifariello” committee and the Lions – district 108, has chosen to entrust the master sculptor Domenico Sepe with the creation of two statues, one depicting the emperor Caesar Octavian Augustus and the other Saint Michael.
The two statues are located at the foot of the Palazzo Mediceo and will be inaugurated on Saturday 25 November at 9,30:108 with an event that will be held at the church of San Michele Arcangelo. Moderated by journalist Giovanna Salvati, the speakers will include Prof. Biagio Simonetti (mayor of Ottaviano), the lawyer Fiorella Saviano (municipal councilor delegated to culture), Prof. Carmine Cimmino (historian), the lawyer Marcello Fabbrocini (president of the A. Cifariello Civic Committee), the lawyer Vincenzo Iovino (Lions Club International contact person district XNUMX YA IX constituency Zone XX), Prof. Umberto Catapano (historian and councilor of the A. Cifariello Civic Committee), and the maestro Domenico Sepe.
The extraordinary participation of the Accademia Vesuviana del Teatro Arte e Musica directed by maestro Gianni Sallustro is expected. Sculptor, painter, set designer. Domenico Sepe has already created several monuments and public works, touching on various themes, from sacred to commemorative sculpture; his works have been placed throughout the country, in various regions, and internationally (Spain, Brazil and Argentina). His “D10S” is famous (exhibited for a long time outside the Diego Armando Maradona stadium).
