Three young people from the province of Napoli they were reported by the State Police of Matera for a scam against an elderly couple. The scam was carried out with one of the usual pretexts with which scammers target potential victims: they call home, introducing themselves as family members and ask for money for reasons that they claim are urgent, then they keep the victims blocked on the phone while one or more accomplices knock on the door and then physically steal money and valuables.
A married couple, in via Lucana, were deceived by a phone call in which one of the criminals introduced himself as the son who asked for money for a payment to be made at the post office, saying to prepare the sum of 4.000 euros in cash, since a friend would come to collect the money. Then the accomplice arrived and took 750 euros and other valuables. Only at this moment did the two spouses realize the scam, shouting at the criminal who quickly disappeared and calling 113.
The intervention on site of the patrol car and the examination of the video surveillance cameras by the mobile squad allowed them to identify a suspicious Fiat Panda that was fleeing in the direction of Potenza. Having received the alarm, the officers of the Grottaminarda Highway Police (Avellino) managed to stop the suspicious car that was traveling at high speed in the direction of Naples. The three were accompanied to the police station and searched. The money and valuables, already recognized by the owners as personal effects, were recovered.
