Castellammare. A tragedy was narrowly avoided shortly after dawn today on Viale delle Puglie. A nurse and an ambulance driver were injured after the ambulance swerved and crashed into a tree.
The ambulance of the Misericordia of Gragnano, was on her way to pick up an injured person. Perhaps because of an oil stain on the asphalt, she skidded. The road was also slippery at that time due to a light rain that was falling.
The driver was unable to control the vehicle, which crossed into the other lane and crashed into a tree. Fortunately, there were no other cars traveling in the opposite direction at the time, otherwise the consequences could have been much more serious.
The Carabinieri were also on site to carry out investigations. The two injured were taken to the nearby San Leonardo Hospital. The driver suffered bruises to various parts of his body, while the nurse was transported to the Vecchio Pellegrini Hospital in Napoli where glass shards will have to be removed from his eyes.
