Yesterday evening, a fire engulfed a house in Maiori, specifically on the ground floor facing the seafront.
The alarm was raised shortly before 22:00 PM by several people who noticed black smoke coming from the house. Firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the flames, attracting the attention of numerous passersby on the waterfront.
When the fire was almost out, with the arrival of the Carabinieri from the station Maiori and the Mobile Radio Unit, the firefighters inspected the home. In the bedroom, they made a tragic discovery: a charred corpse.
The victim was the home's sole occupant, Antonio Civale, 78, a well-known local professional with a lower limb disability. Civale's body was found lying on the bed, raising the possibility that he may have died in his sleep without realizing the fire was underway. Accidental fire is also being considered a possible cause of the fire.
