A massive seizure of hashish worth €2 million and the arrest of a well-known courier are the results of an operation by the Naples Financial Police that dealt a blow to drug lords and derailed the sales plans of some clans for the end-of-year holidays.
The financiers of the Provincial Command of Napoli In fact, in the city centre, they seized 290 kg of a narcotic substance of the hashish type, ready to be distributed on the Neapolitan market.
In particular, during a patrol service along the main roads leading to the city, the military personnel of the Economic and Financial Police Unit checked an Iveco Daily van driven by a 66-year-old man, resident in Marano di Napoli, already known as he had specific police records.
The operating military officers therefore decided to inspect the vehicle, also in light of the evident structural discrepancies of the cargo compartment compared to the approval standards.
The search activities allowed to identify, under the rear floor of the vehicle, a homemade double bottom consisting of a large container in galvanized aluminum, sealed by welding to the frame. For this reason, the intervention of the Fire Brigade of the Provincial Command of Naples was requested, who managed to open the hidden compartment.
The double bottom was supported by two metal rails
The double bottom, resting on two metal rails, was completely extracted from its housing and inside, after removing the two metal plates that hermetically sealed it, 2.900 blocks of hashish were found.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and taken to the Naples-Poggioreale prison.
The seized drug, if placed on the market, would have brought criminal organizations in Campania an illicit profit estimated at over 2 million euros.
