“A severe and unjust sentence: Simone Isaia needs treatment, not imprisonment.”
This is what a group of associations and institutions (Iod editions, Prison Pastoral of the Church of Naples, Liberi di Volare Association, Free Evangelical Christian Church of Casalnuovo, United Colors of Naples and Tribunali138) emphasize in a joint press release, which once again launches a signature collection for the homeless man suffering from mental problems, held responsible for the fire, last July 12, of the work “The Venus of the Rags” by Michelangelo Pistoletto in Piazza Municipio in Naples.
Recently, at the end of an abbreviated trial, the court of Naples sentenced Isaia to four years in prison and a fine of 4 thousand euros.
“Over time, Isaia was transferred from house arrest to a community in Salerno after an initial period of detention in the Poggioreale prison,” the statement recalls. “Now, there is the risk that he will return to prison again. The beating heart of the Law must always be Justice, but unfortunately this is not always the case.”
To prevent Simone Isaia from ending up behind bars again, a trial is being proposed again petition which in August had already collected the signatures of 5897 people. These people are called upon to make their voices heard again by signing a similar petition at the following address: [link to the petition: https://chng.it/SzwBW2QHk2] so that Simone is guaranteed treatment and not prison.
