According to a survey by Federalberghi, this year the bridge of the immaculate, which falls on Friday, will be a vacation opportunity for 13,2 million Italians, up 2,2% from last year.
Most tourists (96,3%) will remain in the Bel Paese, while only 3,7% will go abroad. Among those who will remain in Italy, 55,8% will move within the same region of residence.
The favorite destinations will be:
art locations (30,2%)
the mountain (28,2%)
seaside resorts (14%)
spa resorts (3,8%)
the lakes (3,5%)
For those going abroad, the most popular destinations will be the major European capitals (82,6%).
The main reasons why Italians choose to take a holiday on this long weekend are:
relaxation (44,9%)
family reunification (35,3%)
fun (25,4%)
The most popular accommodation will be the homes of relatives and friends (35,2%), along with hotels and tourist villages (26,6%).
The average length of stay will be 3,3 nights.
The average expenditure, including transportation, accommodation, food and entertainment, will be around 432 euros per person (414 euros for those who will spend the holiday in Italy and 790 euros for those who will go abroad).
The overall turnover will be around 4,46 billion euros.
These results are encouraging, but they have also been influenced by the increase in prices that is characterizing this period. In fact, 35,6% of vacationers have decided to reduce their spending on this vacation precisely because of inflation.
The main activities that tourists will carry out during the bridge will be:
walks (43,2%)
excursions and trips (27,4%)
participation in food and wine events (22,2%)
visit to museums or exhibitions (14%)
visit to monuments (13,6%)
The most used means of transport will be the car (74,5%).
45% of those interviewed said they gave up their vacation for economic reasons; 14,4% because they will leave in another period and 12,4% for family reasons.
"The holiday that the 2023 calendar made fall on a Friday has certainly helped our fellow citizens in planning a trip - said the president of Federalberghi, Bernabò Bocca, commenting on the survey conducted for the federation by ACS Marketing Solutions -. Compared to last year, an increase in turnover was detected. But at the same time we have seen from the numbers that the watchword for Italians traveling this year will be "savings.
There is a substantial tendency to cut back on expenses related to accommodation, food and entertainment and perhaps plan a shorter vacation. However, one thing seems clear: Italians are tightening their belts and are not giving up on going on vacation. For us - concludes Bocca - the performance linked to the Immaculate Conception long weekend represents a dress rehearsal in view of the Christmas holidays that are now approaching. For this reason, I would like to consider these results, always with the utmost caution, a good omen for the scenario that we will face in the very near future".
The Immaculate Conception long weekend in 2023 promises to be a success for Italian tourism, with an increase in the number of tourists and turnover compared to last year. However, inflation is influencing tourists' choices, who are reducing their spending on vacations. Despite this, Italians are not giving up on leaving and are preparing to spend a long weekend of relaxation and fun.
Caivano – An arrest that brings to light one of the most dramatic pages in Neapolitan news. Yesterday, the Carabinieri snapped handcuffs on Ciro Migliore, a 27-year-old already known to law enforcement, during a drug raid in Caivano's green park. The man, identified as an alleged drug dealer, is the same young transgender man who was the boyfriend of Maria Paola Gaglione, the 16-year-old who died in the accident in September 2020. The tragedy, which shocked the entire community, was caused by the victim's brother, Michael Gaglione. As established in the trial, the man, opposing his sister's relationship, chased the couple on a motorcycle. During the chase, the scooter on which Maria Paola and Ciro Migliore were riding crashed, causing the young woman's death. Michele Gaglione was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison for manslaughter. Yesterday's arrest by the police adds a dark piece to Migliore's story. The military raided his home, finding evidence of what appears to be a well-organized drug dealing ring: among the findings, 10 pre-packaged doses of cocaine and crack, packaging material and a "lmaster book" with initials and numbers, likely the accounts from the illegal sale. €1.675 in cash was also seized, presumably the proceeds of the illicit activity. The September 16th investigation is not the first drug dealing investigation involving Ciro Migliore after the death of his girlfriend; already in February 2021, he was targeted by law enforcement for similar crimes. The arrest closes a tragic cycle, where a family loss is intertwined with stories of deviance and illegality.
