Another exceptional birth at Roar di Salerno, at the High-Risk Pregnancy Department, headed by the doctor Mario Polichetti.
A 42-year-old woman gave birth to two gemelli monochorionic monozygotes, weighing 2,140 kg and 2,500 kg, born in the same placenta, at the 36th week and 4 days. The atypicality of the case is related to the fact that the pregnancy reached the 36th week, when it usually does not end after the 34th.
Monitoring was also made possible thanks to an innovative telemetry technique, i.e. a 24-hour check of fetal well-being, transmitted by a remote device that allowed doctors to continue the pregnancy until the 36th week and 4 days.
“These events are very rare-declares Polychaetes- but my department, equipped with sophisticated and technologically advanced equipment, and thanks to the diligence of the doctors I manage, is able to deal with even the most challenging and complicated cases."
