Naples said goodbye to Enzo Moscato , the playwright who described the city and its inhabitants with a raw and poetic language.
The funeral chapel was set up in the Sala Assoli, his reference theater, where the coffin was exposed on the stage. The funeral, celebrated in the church of San Ferdinando, was attended by hundreds of people, including actors, directors, musicians and politicians.
Toni Servillo, who acted in many of Moscato's works, remembered his friend and teacher as a "great author who knew how to sow wonderful words and thoughts."
Director Mario Martone stressed that Moscato “gave voice to Naples like Eduardo and Viviani,” adding that “his voice will no longer be able to resonate, but new voices will arrive.”
Giuseppe Affinito, a young actor and director who studied and acted under Moscato, spoke of a “border drawn between two worlds, a utopia, a dream”.
Enzo Moscato died Saturday night at the age of 75. His work left an indelible mark on the Italian and international theater scene.
