British actress Glynis Johns, known for her feisty role in the comedy "Mary Poppins," died on Thursday, January 4, at the age of 100, at a Los Angeles nursing home from natural causes, her manager Mitch Clem announced.
In the famous 1964 Disney film, Johns played Winifred Banks, the vivacious suffragette wife of George Banks, the London banker played by David Tomlinson. Her exuberant rendition of the song "Sister Suffragette" has remained memorable.
In addition to her iconic role, Glynis Johns, a highly talented dancer, pianist, and singer, had a transatlantic career spanning more than 60 years, spanning theater, film, and television. She won a Tony Award for her performance in "A Little Night Music" and received an Oscar nomination for her performance in "The Nomads" (1960).

Of Welsh descent, Glynis Johns was born on October 5, 1923, in Pretoria, South Africa, and began her career in show business at a young age. She made a significant impact in British films, including "A Mermaid in Society" (1948) and "Mad About Men" (1954), before moving to Hollywood. She starred in Disney films such as "The Sword and the Rose" and "Rob Roy" (1953), achieving popularity.
In addition to her film career, Glynis Johns has had success on Broadway and in television series, excelling in a variety of roles. She played Desiree's mother in several revivals of "A Little Night Music." In 1988-89, she starred in the sitcom "The Dunes," playing an elderly woman living in a retirement community in Arizona.
Married four times, Johns had a son, actor Gareth Forwood, during her marriage to Anthony Forwood. The actress leaves no heirs, as confirmed by her agent Mitch Clem.
