Meanwhile, in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, a riot broke out when several inmates occupied an entire floor, damaging property and furnishings. According to the Uilpa Penitentiary Police union (while other sources estimate around 250 inmates), approximately fifteen inmates participated in the riot. Only with the intervention of the supervisory magistrate was calm restored.
The situation came to a head late yesterday morning when an inmate in the Volturno ward requested permission to visit his brother, Emanuele Nebbia, who was in serious condition following the attack. Receiving no immediate response, the inmate began protesting, involving other inmates, barricading himself on the third floor of the ward and causing damage until the supervisory magistrate and deputy prison director Marco Casale intervened. Those responsible for the protests, including the initiator, will be transferred.
