The Odyssey told from a female point of view: from January 19 to 21, 2024, at the Teatro TRAM, “Signora Odissea” will be performed, by and with Roberta Misticone and Titti Nuzzolese, with musical elaboration and live music by Francesco Santagata. A story that the whole world knows, a story that contains many stories: two women, a time that does not exist.

Penelope and Circe live, breathe, fight, involving us in their lives, too often imagined in the shadow of a man who has profoundly changed them. Yet their controversial path, their strength, courage, intelligence have changed the fate of history. We seem to know everything about Circe, the sorceress told by Homer, who loves Odysseus and turns his companions into pigs. We seem to know everything about Penelope and her web, the patient wife, destined to wait and often, for this reason, mocked.

Yet there is a before and after of their history, which makes them among the most fascinating and complex female characters of the classical tradition, still today and, forever, necessary, to understand the importance of women in every era and society. They still live in other bodies, with other voices, in other stories that we will never stop listening to.

“Im/Perfetta teatro was born during the covid period, we strongly wanted to respond to the forced stop with a project that represented us and allowed us to express ourselves totally – explain Nuzzolese and Misticone -. The name of our company is intended to be a warning to us women, to produce, tell and create while being increasingly in tune and listening to each other. “Signora Odissea” is our first production. The Odyssey that everyone knows has a male narration that almost links these two women to two images, two stereotypes recognized for their most well-known characteristics: magic for Circe, fidelity for Penelope. The female point of view that we have given to the story broadens the perspective of their personalities. Their story is full of moments, changes and, even though they were born in different contexts and lived experiences and lives very far from each other, they often find themselves living the same internal processes. We worked trying to express the passage from the lightness of youth to the awareness of maturity. To strip them of the epic nature of their figures and dress them in a wild strength, closer to warriors, almost like a video game. They are two strong-willed 'heroines'. Not only victims of their own stories and of men but capable of being reborn powerful from their own suffering. They are two women”.
