Incanti d'Autore: the concert in the Arsenale of the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare in “Anima di Terra Tour”. The protagonists are the great voices of the Neapolitan heritage: Fausta Vetere, Umberto Maisto, Gianni Lamagna, Carmine Bruno, Marino Sorrentino, Michele Signore, Pasquale Ziccardi.

The Calata della Stella canceled due to adverse weather forecasts

Epiphany takes away all the festivities, but in Amalfi it becomes an occasion for two days of events to immerse yourself in the suggestive Christmas atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast.

After the success of the concert at the Buio, the InCanti d'Autore festival continues, included in the program of events promoted by the Municipal Administration led by the Mayor Daniele Milano, with free admission as always.

Among the magical vaults of the Ancient Arsenal of the Republic of Amalfi in living rock, the sounds of the great tradition of the Neapolitan classical heritage will resonate.

At center stage, on Friday 5 January 2024 at 19pm, an iconic formation, which has made anthropological research and contamination its strong point. The extraordinary concert will enchant the public with the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare NCCP as protagonist in the “Anima di Terra Tour”.

In 1520 Magellan, circumnavigating the southern coasts of Argentina on board the ship Trinidad, saw fires along the coast and called those lands "lands of fires". These had been lit by the local natives, accustomed to gathering around large bonfires outside their huts, first of all to protect themselves from the cold, but also because, through the smoke and sparks, their prayers would more easily reach the sky and therefore the deities.

Here in Campania, when fires are lit during a holiday or religious occasion, the burning wood returns the soul of the plant to the heavens and protects against negative influences. These fires have been the same for millennia, and their purpose is to carry the prayers of the faithful to heaven. Today, the allure of this popular belief has given way, here in Campania, to a derogatory connotation, as the expression "land of fires" has become synonymous with "hell" due to the sad news stories everyone knows about: it is no longer wood that is burned, but waste. – states the NCCP – However, our region is also a land of “sounds”, a land that through its art and, above all, its music has exported history and culture, becoming an essential point of reference over the centuries”.

For all these reasons, the project of the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare will have the title "Anima di Terra Tour", a musical show composed of those songs from our tradition and our land, which give meaning to a new illusion. Thus it will be the notes, and no longer the contemporary fires, that will convey our dreams or our prayers, so that they rise clearly towards the sky.

With Fausta Vetere on vocals and guitar, Umberto Maisto on guitar, battente guitar, mandola and bouzouki, Gianni Lamagna on vocals and guitar, Carmine Bruno on percussion, frame drum and tammorra, Marino Sorrentino on accordion, trumpet and flute, Michele Signore on violin, mandocello and lyra pontiaca, Pasquale Ziccardi on vocals and bass.

Grand finale of the Christmas program of events, Saturday 6 January 2024, with the traditional procession of the Little Shepherds accompanied by bagpipes which will start from Valle dei Mulini at 11.30 am and will parade throughout the city.

In the afternoon at 16.30pm the bands of the Amalfi Folk New Year will return to parade: a moment eagerly awaited by the various folkloristic groups representing each hamlet of Amalfi, who work all year round to transmit to children and young people a cultural heritage that is deeply rooted its roots over the centuries, considered a good luck charm for the new year, among popular songs and typical traditional instruments in a recovery of the rhythms of ancestral Neapolitans including putipù, triccheballacche, tammorre, castagnelle, tambourines and scetavajasse.

At 18.30 pm the music gives way to the liturgy, with the Pontifical Holy Mass at the Cathedral of Amalfi and the public display, i.e. the "rising of the Child".

Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions forecast for January 6th, it will not be possible to make the star 'fall'. In fact, the rough sea and the wind do not allow assembly and descent in total safety, forcing the cancellation of an event greatly loved by all Amalfi residents.
