Arzano. The wave of thefts that has hit the city for at least a couple of months now does not stop. Never before have there been such serious episodes that according to some, could also be read as a sort of intimidation by the racketeering lords.

The bar “Vi.Mi.” on Via Volpicelli ended up in the crosshairs. In this case too, the thieves first smashed the windows in the middle of the night and then broke into the bar, stealing whatever they could. Just a few hours before the latest theft, the windows of a shop on Via Pecchia had been smashed.

A relentless criminal escalation, which had seen the “HotDog” sandwich shop on via Sette Re, the Leopollo and Mister Chicken pizzerias, the “Eugenio Caffè” bar and others end up in its sights.

A singular yet serious sequence of thefts which, according to journalist Mimmi Rubio, under escort, could "hide" the 167 clan's attempt to put pressure on local merchants and then guarantee them a "security policy" by demanding protection money.

Meanwhile, according to rumours to be verified, even in the historic centre where there is a thriving drug dealing area between via Zanardelli and via Del Centenario, there are signs of occupations of uninhabited houses by individuals close to the clans.

All this despite the reassurances of the mayor Vincenza Aruta who highlighted the groundlessness of the crime alarm, branding the episodes as "physiological" and "petty" crime.

Episodes that highlight how the 167 clan is still strong and invasive through the Monfregolo subgroup. Alarm raised in the analysis of the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate which writes of how, in particular, in the Municipality of arzano the Camorra group called those of the 167 of Arzano remains operational, primarily dedicated to extortion carried out with mafia methods to the detriment of local entrepreneurs and that, in March 2022, the Amato-Paganos were affected by the release from prison of some prominent members such as Giovanni and Angelo Gambino, Salvatore Romano and Giosuè Belgiorno supported by associates and gualdgioni.

The association would be headed by the Amato-Pagano clan and would have taken over the control of that territory from the Moccia clan after the murder of the contact of the latter organization, also committed in Arzano.

The clan would also exercise its influence in the municipalities of Mugnano and Melito di Napoli where it would maintain its traditional interests in drug trafficking, extortion and infiltration of public administration as happened in recent years in the municipality of Arzano.

The investigations would have revealed serious evidence of interference by certain members of the Amato-Pagano clan in the local electoral consultations of October 2021 in Melito but also of attacks in Arzano during the 2017 elections, through the promise of votes to candidates in exchange for money and other benefits for the Camorra organization, as well as various extortions to the detriment of construction contractors involved in the construction of works in Melito di Napoli.

The "Alternativa per Arzano" group has requested an urgent town council meeting on safety and a note to the Porcura and the Prefect Michele Di Bari.
