A commando of at least 10 people attacked an armored van and two other armored vehicles of the Vigilpol on the state road 131 'Carlo Felice', in the Sassari area, at the height of the crossroads for Siligo.
The attack occurred this morning, around 8.15:2 a.m. The robbers blocked the road in both directions using chains and setting fire to vehicles. Then, about XNUMX km from the roadblocks, they used a garbage truck to block the road, causing the first vehicle in this convoy of armored vehicles to hit it.
The driver of the first armored vehicle was seriously injured in the impact and was airlifted away. Four other security guards suffered minor injuries.
The robbers then opened the vehicles with circular saws and took away the contents inside, which have not yet been quantified.
Law enforcement is still searching for the criminals, who fled towards Mores in a pickup truck and a Fiat Panda, which were later found burned a few kilometers from the scene of the attack.
The anti-robbery plan has been launched throughout Sardinia and numerous roadblocks have been set up everywhere.
A bag containing explosive material was found on a provincial road parallel to State Road 131, at the location where the three Vigilpol armored vehicles were robbed this morning. The State Police bomb squad is currently engaged in the delicate task of defusing the material found.
