The murder of 80-year-old Mario Palma was solved using DNA samples from the National Data Bank. This was the first time in Italy that a crime has been discovered in this way.
The self-confessed murderer is Massimo De Solda, the victim's great-nephew. The 28-year-old, linked to the clans of the Traiano district, has in fact been arrested several times in the past for drugs and in January 2017 he was also injured in an ambush in the Traiano district and therefore his DNA was entered into the database, along with tens of thousands of other profiles from crime scenes.
Typically, the DNA profiles collected concern subjects involved in criminal proceedings and in a measure restricting personal freedom issued by the judicial authority.
The elderly man was stabbed to death in his apartment in Napoli last November. De Solda, who will turn 28, is accused of inflicting 92 stab wounds to his great-uncle's head, face, neck and chest, with 70 of the blows concentrated in his face.
The elderly man's face was disfigured by numerous stab wounds
According to the Naples Prosecutor's Office, the attack was intended to disfigure and inflict pain on Palma. Fingerprints and other evidence were found at the crime scene. The extracted genetic profile was entered into the DNA database, and matched De Solda's, which was already in the system.
This method of genetic identification was used for the first time in Italy to identify a suspected murderer.

This happens when someone is a drug addict. Massimo de Solda, the little drug addict from the Traiano district, has been having a bad time lately.
This happens in a neighborhood at risk. Like the Traiano district, where there are problems related to Drug Addiction, the sale and dealing of drugs, I hope the state does something.
