Four children, the eldest of whom is just under two years old, are currently hospitalised in neonatal intensive care at the "Moscati" hospital in Avellino, following infection by bronchiolitis, a viral disease that affects newborns.

Two of these children were transferred from Santobono to Naples, while the other two came from centers in the Irpinia province. The children are currently receiving respiratory assistance.

Doctor Sabine Moschella, medical director of neonatology at the "Moscati" hospital, commented: "They arrived in truly serious conditions, but we are optimistic about their outcome." Faced with this situation, the department established a task force to address the emergency, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures to prevent the spread of the infection.

Doctors' advice

Parents are advised to avoid crowded places, avoid direct contact with older children and adults, ventilate rooms and, above all, regularly disinfect their hands.

Medical professionals recommend that if parents experience clinical signs of bronchiolitis, such as rapid breathing, a persistent cough, and difficulty breastfeeding, they should not hesitate to seek immediate medical attention.
