"This is an exceptional discovery. We've uncovered a Roman villa from the Imperial period overlooking the sea at Miseno. It's happening while we're building the new public park in Bacoli. A marvel from the 1st century AD.
The new municipal house we'll be delivering to the community will be visible to anyone who wants to live there. It's right there where one of the largest building disasters on the Campania coast was built.
This is the comment, on social media, of the mayor of bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, speaking of the recent discovery in an area where there was "an eyesore, with concrete flowing onto the beach and into the sea" that the Municipality has decided to clean up and make accessible to all citizens.

"We don't want to stop here", continued the mayor, adding that it is in "pending the evaluation of an extensive excavation project for the villa and its subsequent enhancement." Currently the perimeter of the rooms has been fenced off and returned, "thanks also to the upcoming installation of explanatory signs, for public enjoyment."
The public park on the sea will be inaugurated in a few weeks
The inauguration will take place in a few weeks, the mayor concluded. "And it will be a celebration for the entire city. Because where there was devastation, illegal construction, decay, and the deprivation of a public good, today we are creating something of a civic miracle. A public park by the sea, with a Roman monument. Beauty upon beauty."
