Regarding the bust of Mussolini found in a room in the Surgery Department 3 of the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples, Avs MP Francesco Borrelli has brought forth new evidence.
Meanwhile, the hospital's internal investigation has begun. On behalf of the general management, the Administrative Inspection Service staff went to the premises in question, without finding the material photographed yesterday (in addition to the bust, also a 2021 calendar with Mussolini on the cover and the fascist motto 'memento audere semper') and removed during the day, according to what was reported by the department management.
The company's Inspection Service "is proceeding to acquire evidence and statements from department staff to ascertain who placed the objects inside the room, whether the room was intended for staff only or also for patients, and how long the material had been present in the room" , we learn from the management of the Cardarelli.
The inspectors' report will be finalized in the coming days and will be forwarded by management to the disciplinary office and the company legal department to assess whether any violations of the rules and code of conduct for public employees have occurred. The department's head physician, Carmine Antropoli , who is away on vacation, explained yesterday that the bust had been temporarily placed in that room by a doctor, pending his return home at the end of his shift.
"The surgeon and head of the Surgery 3 department at the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples ," a statement reads, "after getting caught in the turmoil over the bust of Mussolini, tried to justify himself by saying that a colleague of his had placed the sculpture there while he was waiting to take it home after receiving it from a friend who had arrived at the hospital. It was, therefore, a temporary issue."
But some witnesses who spoke to Borrelli "say that photos of the Duce's bust have been circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups since 2019."
"Conflicting statements. Someone is lying," Borrelli concludes . "At this point, we need to know the truth. We've asked management to verify whether that bust has been there since 2019. If so, action will have to be taken. Let us never allow the glorification of fascism in public buildings."
