The bill introduced last December to establish the 'Regional Supplementary Measure for Income Support and Active Social Inclusion Policies' (MIR) was presented to the Regional Council this morning.

The councilor Maria Muscarà, of the mixed group, recalled the struggles of citizen and Campania movements towards the Mir, including the popular petition delivered in July to the president of the regional council with thousands of signatures from Campania citizens.

The press conference was attended by most of the associative, trade union and political components of the Committee of Purpose (Cobas, Laboratorio Sud, Rifondazione Comunista, Pci) as well as a delegation of former recipients of the citizen's income from NAPLES and the province.

It was recalled that "in November 2023, INPS data show—compared to the month prior to the suspension of the citizen's income from July onwards—the exclusion of over forty-four thousand Campanian families, which in terms of beneficiaries involved corresponds to approximately 75 people who no longer received the income," recalls Rosario Marra of the Special Purpose Committee.

This is the population of a provincial capital like Caserta, a figure that prompts Muscarà and the Committee to urgently request a discussion in the Regional Council "seeking all possible convergences, also because, according to the 2024-26 budget forecast, the money is there and it is above all a question of political will."

Confirming the possibility of a regional citizen's income, it was noted that applications are currently being submitted in Puglia for a "dignity income," which also constitutes a measure to combat poverty that complements national measures.
