Today at Capri, already desolately calm due to the lack of tourists and adverse weather conditions since the first days of 2024, rough seas have been added, forcing shipping companies to cancel trips to the blue island.
Today, due to the rough seas generated by the north-east wind, all hydrofoil departures from Naples and Sorrento have been cancelled. The strong wind, which began to blow late in the evening, has practically interrupted maritime connections with the mainland.
Since the morning, all the fast lines that connect the blue island with both Naples and the Sorrento peninsula and Castellammare di Stabia have stopped. After the first departures of the Caremar ferries on the Capri-Naples route, the subsequent trips have also been in doubt since late afternoon, raising fears of a complete isolation between the land of the Faraglioni and the mainland.
Adverse travel conditions are determined both by waves over a metre high and by strong gusts of wind reaching thirty knots, making it difficult to manoeuvre in ports during the entry and exit of vessels.
Cold currents from the north-east, according to forecasts, should bring a drop in temperatures also in Capri, but an improvement in sea weather conditions is hoped for starting tomorrow.
