And from Viareggio comes the homage to Casalnuovo tailoring: on a float the typical tools of the tailor's trade will parade.
Everything is ready for the fourth edition of the “Carnival in Casalnuovo”, the carnival initiative of the City of Casalnuovo, with allegorical floats and a masked parade that will take place from 10 February to 13 February 2024 with the arrival in Piazza Municipio at 17.00 pm on Saturday 10 February.
The “Carnival in Casalnuovo” was born in 2019 and since then, except for the forced stop due to covid, it has never stopped and has given its audience allegorical floats, by choice, not very flashy but full of meaning.
Also noteworthy is last year's initiative that brought the theme of autism to the center of the activities and events of this important city event: children with autism spectrum disorder painted some elements (balloons and benches) of a float blue that then paraded during the carnival together with other figures.
This year, organizers announced, they will try to feature the theme of femicide on one of the floats. This is a heartfelt decision after the event that shocked the country: the killing of Giulia Cecchettin.
On one of the floats there will be a parade of red balloons and symbols of the fight against violence against women (red shoes and red bows on the chests of Disney characters, to involve even the little ones in the message).
“It is right that even Carnival, the highest expression of joy and lightheartedness, finds a moment of reflection on a crucial theme such as femicide, launching a strong and clear message against violence against women”, is the comment of Giovanni Nappi, creator of the Casalnuovo carnival.
Another of the floats will parade, instead, to pay homage to the tradition par excellence of the city of Casalnuovo di Napoli: tailoring.
Papier-mâché creations will reproduce some of the typical tools of the tailors' trade, to parade on a float branded Emanuele Morelli and Filippo Bertolucci, owners of the shop "Carta, colla e fantasia".
In their magical corner of Lido di Camaiore, Emanuele and Filippo create handmade creations using the papier-mâché technique typical of the Viareggio carnival.
Carnival in Casalnuovo: the event program
This year's edition of the "Carnival in Casalnuovo" includes 4 events, from Saturday 10 February to Tuesday 13 February:
• Saturday 10 February - parade from 17.00pm to 21.00pm on CORSO UMBERTO and the central area
• Sunday 11 February - parade from 10.00 to 13.30 on Via Nazionale delle Puglie and Zona Tavernanova
• Monday 12 February - from 17.00pm to 20.00pm - Carnival party for children - with music and juggling shows at the Parco delle Chiocciole Via Paolo Borsellino (Licignano area - Via Pigna)
• Tuesday 13 February - from 11.00 to 14.00 - closing party - music, entertainment and juggling shows and awards ceremony for the most beautiful masks at the Parco delle Chiocciole Via Paolo Borsellino (Licignano area - Via Pigna)
