The appeals of the mother of Roberta Bertacchi, the 26-year-old girl who died, for information about her daughter's death, have not been ignored. New details are emerging thanks to four witnesses, three women and a man who were friends of Roberta. They told investigators that Roberta and her 35-year-old boyfriend, Davide, had had an argument in the young woman's house a few hours before she was found hanged on the balcony with a scarf from the football team casarano on the morning of January 6. Friends say they witnessed the argument because they were at home with them.
Roberta had moved into that apartment just a few weeks earlier and worked in a shoe factory. She had recently started her relationship with Davide. Davide, a fan of the local team, had given her the scarf she was found hanging with. According to witnesses, on the evening of January 5, witnesses had met Roberta and Davide in a bar. The fact that Roberta had stopped to talk to them had annoyed Davide. According to friends, Roberta and Davide had started arguing and the fight had continued in the car until Roberta had decided to walk home. Her friends had met her at home, where Davide had arrived. He had left the house once, and then returned a few minutes later.
Roberta's friends recall staying with her until 3 a.m. and then leaving her alone in the house. What happened in the hours that followed is yet to be determined. A neighbor found Roberta's body around 10 a.m. on January 6. Davide was questioned by the Carabinieri as an informed witness. In a television interview, he said he had not been at Roberta's house that evening and had gone back to sleep in his apartment. He later said he had gone to Roberta's house to make sure she had returned.
The autopsy revealed nothing to suggest anything other than suicide. However, some broken objects were found in Roberta's apartment, which is still under seizure, which aroused the suspicions of investigators. Roberta's parents believe that someone, unaware of her fragility, may have pushed her to commit the extreme act. The Lecce Prosecutor's Office is investigating for incitement to suicide and the investigation is still ongoing. The analysis of Roberta's cell phone is underway to reconstruct the last contacts and messages received, but the phone was being repaired two days before her death.
