The action of the Carabinieri of the Company continues without stopping Caserta aimed at preventing and repressing crimes against persons and property in the city centre and surrounding municipalities.
Shortly after midnight yesterday, the Operations Centre received a request for help via the emergency number “112” from a woman who reported having been stopped by a man on Via Acquaviva where she was driving in her car together with her husband and daughter.
The same woman, with a trembling voice, reported that the man, apparently 50 years old, after hitting the mirror of their car with a tool, staged the damage to her cell phone due to the fake blow he had received.
He immediately called an accomplice who demanded compensation of 650 euros from her husband for the destroyed cell phone.
When the husband refused, the two threatened to kill him and that they would take his car away.
Following this threat, the attackers forced them to get back into their cars to reach the nearest ATM where they would withdraw the money they wanted.
At close range, aboard a Fiat Panda, the two, together with a third accomplice at the wheel, followed their car without losing sight of them.
It was at that moment, when they reached Piazza Dante, that the frightened woman called the Carabinieri with her cell phone. In the meantime, the criminals, having noticed the phone call, suddenly accelerated their march, proceeding towards via Battisti and moving away.
The Carabinieri of the Operations Centre immediately launched the search by sending two Carabinieri radio units to support the search.
The fugitives' car was intercepted after a few minutes in San Nicola La Strada by the military of the local station where, after a daring chase, it was blocked.
The occupants of the white Panda, a 54-year-old from Santa Maria Capua Vetere, a 52-year-old from Caserta and a 41-year-old from Acerra, all already known to the police, were accompanied to the barracks.
The immediate search of the car in their use, which turned out to be the object of theft, allowed to find inside it also some burglary tools. The found items were seized.
The three detainees were arrested and taken to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, at the disposal of the competent judicial authority. They will have to answer for attempted extortion, receiving stolen goods and resisting a public official.
